Magnification of the hatching |
“Hatching” is a word which refers to the embryo emerging from the coat surrounding it (zona pellucida) in order to implant in the uterus. “Assisted Hatching” is a procedure performed in the laboratory where a small hole is opened in the coat of the embryo so that it can find it easier to emerge from it once transferred.
This is indicated mainly in patients who are older than 39. Couples with recurrent implantation failure can also benefit from it, no matter what the woman’s age may be.
